General info
This wine is made up of 90% Prugnolo Gentile (a special clone of the Sangiovese grape) and 10% Merlot. The estate, named La Braccesca, was acquired by Antinori in 1990. It is located in the hills a few kilometers from Montepulciano, in southern Tuscany near the border with Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. It spans 238 hectares, of which 175 hectares are planted with clayey soil mixed with sand. After the harvest, the grapes are carefully selected and softly pressed. The fermentation process is initiated at a temperature of 27-30 degrees Celsius and lasts for 15 to 20 days. Subsequently, the wine matures for 12 months in large oak barrels, while a small portion ages in small barriques. After aging, the wine is blended and bottled, and it undergoes an additional 12 months of aging before being released to the market.
Tasting notes
The wine has a deep ruby red color with an intense aroma of red fruits and vanilla. The taste is full-bodied, fruity, beautifully structured, and well-balanced.
