Grape Varieties & Vinification
Abadía Retuerta is a historic estate in Castilla y León, Spain, with a winemaking tradition dating back over eight centuries. The estate, led by oenologist Ángel Anocíbar, is known for its commitment to wines that reflect the unique personality of the terroir. Since early 2022, it has held its own Protected Designation of Origin (Abadía Retuerta DOP).
The Seleccion Especial is a complex and harmonious blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Graciano, and Petit Verdot. The wine is aged for 12 months in both French and American oak barrels, which contributes to its structure and complexity.
Tasting Note
The wine has a dark red colour in the glass. The nose is clean and appealing, with bright aromas of red fruit such as currant, raspberry, and cherry. In the mouth, the wine is soft, refreshing, and very pleasant. It is characterized by fine and ripe tannins, which ensure a balanced and elegant finish.
Food Pairing
Due to its structure, ripe tannins, and complex fruit character, this wine pairs well with grilled steak, lamb chops, or a stew. It also combines well with aged, hard Spanish cheeses (such as Manchego Curado) or other full-bodied cheeses.

This historic winery, located on the prestigious 'Golden Mile' of the Duero Valley, distinguishes itself through a centuries-old tradition and a pioneering vision. The absolute highlight? Abadía Retuerta recently received the highest recognition in the wine world: an exclusive, proprietary Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
